About the Opportunity 

We are looking for a Production Supervisor to drive operational performance of individuals, build key relationships on the team, ensure compliance for food safety and quality, plant personnel safety and a create an environment for continuous improvement. 

This role will report directly to our Operations Manager and will work out of our brand-new state of the art manufacturing facility in Columbus (Whitehall) Ohio. 

Responsibilities 

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Tracks key performance indicators (KPI’s) of the production team’s performance including safety, efficiency, waste, downtime, labor hours, and ensure expectations are met or exceeded. 

  • Responsible for monitoring the total production process including continual monitoring of the total product flow, equipment, process methodology, mechanical repair work orders, on-the-job training of employees, writing and developing standard operating procedures (SOP), product quality, product yields and safety excellence. 

  • Ability to look at the production floor with a 48-hour mindset, ensuring the next production day is set for successful. 

  • Knows and understands all equipment in the plant from staging, consuming, and processing materials and final assembly. 

  • Complete understanding of product and process specifications: Able to identify, execute and communicate all aspects. 

  • Maintains workflow by monitoring steps of the process, setting processing variables, and observing control points, labor, and equipment. 

  • Continuously improve operations to maximize profit and minimize cost. 

  • Works effectively with the maintenance team to minimize production downtime and ensure preventative maintenance is performed on schedule. 

  • Investigates and resolves production deviations and issues using six sigma tools. 

  • Assists in production or other duties as assigned when needed. 

Team Building & Supervision 

  • Ensures plant personnel are following standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and working in a safe, efficient, and effective manner while striving to achieve quality level production to exceed our customers' needs. 

  • Leads production teams to achieve required safety, quality, productivity targets for production, sanitation, and logistics. 

  • Builds a strong team by communicating performance expectations; monitoring and appraising performance; providing support, coaching, training, and enforcing standard policies and procedures to plant personnel. 

  • Investigates associate’s complaints and concerns and documents findings and communicates them to the Production Manager and HR Manager.  

  • Provides coaching, counseling, and disciplining to direct reports. 

  • Leads team meetings and cross functional workshops. 

  • Be involved in the hiring and training of new employees, refer employees for promotions. 

  • Identify training opportunities and needs within the production team and discuss needs with production manager and HR to develop training plan. 

  • May cover department in Production Manager’s absence. 

Quality Assurance 

  • Ensures adherence to GMP compliance and safety standards and provide the necessary training and communicate changes on each initiative. 

  • Supervises the daily shift operations of the Department to ensure production standards, quality parameters, safety procedures, and department business plan goals are met. 

  • Ensures the plant meets all government, customer and third-party audit requirements and implement corrective actions according to the audit results. 

  • Isolates any product which will not meet the established quality standards or may cause a food safety hazard. Notify the quality assurance department of any such occurrence and document appropriately. 

  • Follows established programs, policies, and practices to produce safe, quality foods that meet SQF, regulatory, company, and customer requirements. 

Health & Safety 

  • Conducts regular inspections to ensure machinery and equipment is well maintained and running safely according to specifications. 

  • Performs all work in accordance with company standards and established safety procedures. 

  • Follows company safety policies and practices fostering a safe workplace and environment for ourselves and our co-workers. 

Requirements 

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Must have a B.S/B.A. in Business Administration or equivalent combination of education or minimum of 3-5 years’ supervisory experience in a food manufacturing environment.  

  • Must understand FDA and OSHA regulations.   

  • Must have experience evaluating work processes and systems for efficiencies and operational flow.   

  • Knowledge and implementation of lean manufacturing principles is preferred, but not required. 

  • Knowledge and familiarity with automated manufacturing process/packaging technology, GMP and industry standards 

  • Preferred dough experience but not required.

  • A results-oriented individual with excellent time management, problem solving and organizational skills with the ability to do multiple tasks and deliver high-quality results within specified time frames 

  • Attention to detail, ability to prioritize and make judgments, and a sense of urgency. 

  • A decisive leader with strong interpersonal skills and is adept at leading, learning, and motivating. 

  • Excellent computer skills in MS Word and Excel. 

  • Ability to evaluate performance and provide constructive feedback and assistance for improvement.  

  • Must have familiarity with operation layouts and automation improvements, budgeting and cost improvements.  

  • Must be comfortable working in an entrepreneurial spirited, fast-paced and changing workplace environment with a desire to make a strong impact on the business. 

  • Must have the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
